The Hideaway
Cat house. Side table. Hidden storage. One handcrafted piece of solid beechwood.
Your cat has claimed the corner of your living room. The toys are under the sofa. The treats are in a bag on the floor. The spare collar is somewhere.
The Hideaway is a handcrafted solid beechwood cat house that also works as your side table — and hides everything inside. Toys, treats, accessories, whatever your cat's life requires: it all goes in through the front door, and disappears. The top holds your book, your lamp, your coffee. The inside holds your cat.
Three functions. One object. No compromise on any of them.
The Hideaway is built with hand-cut finger joints — a traditional box joinery technique that locks each corner with mechanical precision, no glue required. The result is a structure strong enough to hold weight on top, rigid enough to function as furniture, and built to a standard that makes it worth keeping for years, not replacing every season.
A home within your home
Cats seek enclosed spaces — not because they're hiding, but because they feel safest when they can see out without being seen. The Hideaway's front opening gives your cat full sightlines to the room while the solid beechwood walls hold warmth and block sound. It's not a decorative box. It's a properly considered retreat, built to the proportions cats actually prefer.
A side table that holds its ground
The top surface is solid beechwood — not a veneer, not a composite panel. It holds a lamp, a stack of books, a glass of water, without flexing. The finger-jointed corners distribute load evenly across the structure. You're not compromising on the furniture to get the cat house. Both are built to the same standard.
Everything hidden. Nothing cluttered.
Toys, treats, a spare collar, a bag of catnip — the interior of the Hideaway holds everything your cat's daily life requires, accessed through the same front opening your cat uses. No separate storage basket on the floor. No plastic bin beside the sofa. The clutter disappears into the furniture. Your room stays your room.
Finger joints: the joinery that shows its work
The Hideaway's corners are built with hand-cut finger joints — interlocking wood teeth that grip without glue or hardware. Unlike hidden joints, finger joints are meant to be seen: they're a visual signature of hand craftsmanship, visible on each corner. Every joint is individually fitted, which is why no two Hideaways look exactly alike.
Arrives fully assembled — place it and it's done
The Hideaway is delivered complete. No assembly steps, no tools, no instructions to follow after a long delivery wait. Unbox it, place it beside your sofa, and your cat can move in the same day. We build it entirely before it ships — because a piece this considered shouldn't arrive in pieces.

FAQ
Q: How much storage space is inside?
A: The interior is sized to accommodate a cat comfortably, which means it also holds a meaningful amount of pet supplies. Most cat parents store toys, treat bags, a spare collar, grooming tools, and small accessories inside. The front opening is the access point for both your cat and your storage — we designed it so reaching in to retrieve items doesn't disturb a sleeping cat in the back.
Q: How much weight can the tabletop hold?
A: The solid beechwood top surface comfortably holds everyday side table use — a lamp, books, a glass, small décor items. The finger-jointed structure distributes load across the full frame rather than concentrating it at corners. Beechwood has a compressive strength of approximately 62 MPa — significantly stronger than pine or MDF.
Q: What size cat does it fit?
A: The Hideaway is sized for adult cats and kittens of all standard breeds. If you have a particularly large breed (Maine Coon, Norwegian Forest Cat), message us with their breed and weight and we'll confirm the fit.
Q: How do I clean the inside?
A: The interior is finished with the same natural wood wax oil as the exterior — wipe clean with a slightly damp cloth. For deeper cleaning, the front opening provides full access. We recommend a light re-application of natural wood oil to the interior every 6–12 months to maintain the finish.
Q: Why does it take 2 weeks?
A: Because we don't build until you order. We select the beechwood planks after your purchase — reading the grain, checking for consistency across all panels so the finger joints align cleanly on every corner. The Hideaway has more surface area than any other ZenPaw piece, which means the wood selection matters more. The two weeks are where the craftsmanship happens.
Q: Will the wood change over time?
A: Yes — beechwood develops a warm, deeper patina over years of use. The finger joints become more visually defined as the wood ages, making the craftsmanship more visible over time, not less. Apply natural wood oil once or twice a year to maintain the surface.
